Why Is My Dishwasher Making That Noise?

by Appliance Center

Nobody wants to hear strange sounds coming from one of their appliances. Fortunately, in many cases there are fairly simple fixes to the problem. Let’s check out what’s behind some common dishwasher noises.

Is It Level?

Is your dishwasher buzzing? One common cause is that the appliance isn’t level. Grab a level tool to check. If it’s not level, adjust the legs. Even if it is level, it might be pressing against your counter. If that’s the case, lower the legs a bit to give just a little room.

Are the Dishes Loaded Properly?

Sometimes the solution is as simple as rearranging the dishes inside the dishwasher. Improperly stacked dishes can rub up against each other and cause vibration and noise.

Properly and securely loading the dishwasher can instantly solve the issue.

Pump Problems

Issues with the pump are another possible source of dishwasher noise. If it’s a new dishwasher or one that hasn’t been used in some time, the pump seals can dry out. Pour four cups of water into the bottom of the dishwasher and run a dishwasher cycle.

Food or bits of broken dishes or glasses can also block the pump. Use your manual to locate it and check for debris.

If your dishwasher is still making strange noises, it may be time to schedule a repair visit. There could be a mechanical problem, or if your dishwasher is a few years old, it may just be wearing out.
