Ask any Appliance Center team member to share a little about themselves and you never know what you’ll find out. For example, meet Kay.
You’ll find her at the customer service desk at both our Maumee and Monroe Street superstores. If you’ve met her, you know she’s friendly, super-smart, and always helpful. You might not know that she has dual degrees from a culinary arts school and plays several classical instruments.
She worked in restaurants from the time she was 17, but when COVID closed restaurants, a friend suggested she join the frontline retail workers here to make sure customers still had access to needed appliances and furniture. Kay likes the variety in the day-to-day customer service job.
“I'm the friendly face customers see when they have any questions. I answer phone calls from current, past, and future customers, whether it's to help take a payment, set up delivery, update on an order, or to help a salesperson get an order. I also help customers in store, from writing up an order, taking payment, explaining warranties, or financing. Anyway I can help, I will. Customers are guests and it's important to treat them as such.”
When she’s not busy providing top-notch customer service, Kay likes to cook new foods, catch up on everything Star Trek, and read.
“I’m a bit of a nerd and bookworm.” You can also find her enjoying the great outdoors with her boyfriend and rescue yorkie/chihuahua mix named Oliver. “He loves to go hiking with my boyfriend and I.” Preferably, those hikes happen in the mountains. “Wherever there are mountains, I am there. I love to do anything outdoors and just recently started kayaking.”
Kay says her favorite part about working at Appliance Center is the family atmosphere. “We love to see each other succeed and help one another out. We're like a tiny family. Our employees are always happy to help you and give you the best experience ever.”
