Your vacuum cleaner can be your best friend when it comes to preventing the need for service calls for some common refrigerator problems.
Use it to clean your refrigerator inside and out and you’ll be far less likely to have problems. We’ll start with the inside.

Clean the inside
The vacuum is the ideal tool for picking up tiny particles of food. Your crevice-cleaning attachment is ideal for the job. It’s faster than wiping them up with a cloth and you’re more likely to get them all.
Tiny bits of food can work their way into the drain hose and cause standing water in your fridge, making it smell terrible. Stray bits of food can also mold.
When cleaning the interior of your fridge make sure you only vacuum up dried bits of food, damp or wet food can clog your vacuum. (Unless you’re using a wet/dry vac for the chore.)
Clean the outside
Keeping your refrigerator coils clean helps the appliance maintain an ideal temperature. Refrigerator coils are located either at the base or the back of the fridge, depending on the model. The coils are filled with refrigerant liquid that circulates to keep everything cold.
If they get covered in dust, they won’t work as efficiently. That means your refrigerator must wok a lot harder to stay cool and will wear out faster. Fortunately, it’s not that difficult or time-consuming to clean them.
Start by unplugging the refrigerator. (Don’t worry this will only take a few minutes.) Your coils are located either at the back of the refrigerator…

… or at the front bottom of the appliance, behind a toe grill that snaps easily off.

Vacuum the coils using a brush attachment. You can also pick up a special coil brush to help with the job. The long, narrow brush looks similar to a bottle brush.

If your refrigerator has a snap-off toe grill, don’t forget to thoroughly vacuum the inside of the grill before reattaching it. And don’t forget to plug your refrigerator back in immediately after cleaning.
Preventative maintenance can cut down on the need for repair service and make your refrigerator last a lot longer. But eventually, you may need service or a new appliance.
