Why You Should Use Your Dishwasher Every Day

by Appliance Center

Want to save water, energy, and avoid problems with your dishwasher? Experts say you should use it more often. In fact, run it every day!

How can using an appliance actually save on your utility bills? If you think handwashing instead of using the dishwasher saves on your water bill, you’re in for a surprise. Studies show that while a full dishwasher typically uses about 3.5 gallons of water to clean the dishes, handwashing uses an average of 26 gallons to clean the same amount of dishes.

The typical faucet spouts four gallons of water in two minutes! Since it takes about 15 seconds per dish to hand wash a dish, the total really adds up.

No Need to Prewash!

And there’s no need to pre-wash your dishes before putting them in the dishwasher. That can actually fool the dishwasher’s turbidity sensor. (The turbidity sensor determines how dirty the dishes are by the number of particles suspended in the water.) If your dishes don’t look dirty, it won’t even try to clean them.

Dishwasher water can also get much hotter than water from your faucet. That means dishes are better sanitized.

Another advantage of running your dishwasher frequently is it prevents the pump seal from drying out. If you use it infrequently, it may dry out and crack.

If you’d like to upgrade to a new dishwasher or need service for your current model, Appliance Center is here to help. We have hundreds of dishwashers in stock and academy-trained service technicians standing by to help.
