Front load washers have a lot to offer. They use less energy and water, save space, and are gentler to your clothes.
But there are a couple of things you need to watch out for. The academy-trained and certified technicians from the Appliance Center service department say the two most common complaints they hear are build up and odor. Here’s how you can fight them.
Gunk Build Up
Prevention is always the best cure and you may be able to stop build up before it starts by using less laundry detergent and fabric softener. Front load washers use less water. If you use the same around of laundry products as with a top load model, not all of it will get rinsed away. Make sure to use HE (high-efficiency) approved laundry products. These products are designed to rinse away with less water.
Wipe the bellows (the door seal) with a cloth after each use. Make sure to wipe all the way around both the inside and outside every time you use the washer.
You’ll also want to wipe out the dispenser after each use. Better yet, take it out and rinse it thoroughly in the sink.
Unpleasant Smell
The combination of build-up and moisture can lead to an unpleasant smell. Wiping your washer after every use can help. Leaving the door open when not in use also helps prevent smell. Leave the dispenser open as well.
