No one wants to hear an unusual sound coming from an appliance or an automobile. Some of those noises are no big deal such as popping coming from your refrigerator’s evaporator during the defrost cycle. Other sounds, however, need immediate attention.
One noise you don’t want to ignore is a squeaking sound coming from your dryer. That appliance should never squeak. When you hear a squeak, it most likely means there’s an issue with the mechanism that rotates your dryer’s drum.
A big belt goes around the drum and attaches to a motor that turns it. An idler pulley adds tension to make sure it all turns properly. When you hear that squeaky sound, it probably indicates that a little wheel with a bearing inside the pulley is starting to go bad. It will eventually break and your dryer won’t turn at all. You’ll need to have it repaired ASAP.
